Join us for a fun and memorable evening on Saturday, May 19 in celebrating the pacific coastal flavours of Mexico with Flavours of Hope’s Taste of the Sea and Spanish Stories! Mexican chef Angeles Canedo will create a traditional feast with her favourite family recipes of pico de gallo, spot prawn empanadas, and ceviche dishes highlighting local sustainable seafood including ling cod and side stripe shrimp. We will have a cash bar at the event to enjoy good food and drinks together!

As we eat together and learn about Mexican food and culture, Angeles will share her story of resilience, strength and hope in her journey of coming to Canada with her family as refugee claimants and seeking a safer and better life in Canada. We will play a traditional Mexican game to learn spanish words and hear about the rich history and diverse culture of Mexico.

The pop-up dinner event includes a fundraising auction to support Flavours of Hope’s summer food market pilot to empower refugee women to earn income, receive business training, build a support network, and gain work experience by selling multi-ethnic dishes and sharing their stories on Granville Island this summer. The auction showcases local social entrepreneurs including personal chef class, personal training session, woodworking workshop, and a homemade dinner by Chef Angeles. We will also feature a special raffle for Growoya, an eco garden clay pot for a natural and traditional way to grow food for the summer!
