Dear Friends, Family and Community,
As many of you may knowm for the past two years, I have been struggling with a head injury. As a result, I have been unable to work, drive or be a normal 20-something. Through this experience I have had a tiny look into suffering and it has given me a greater heart to fight the suffering of others in the world. While I cannot change my own circumstances or fight my own suffering, I have realized that with help from friends, WE CAN make a difference in the suffering of others.
This year is my 30th birthday and instead of making the day all about myself, I want to use it to give legs to my last two years of small suffering by fighting greater suffering. I have decided to throw The Beauty from Ashes Gala, a night to benefit and increase awareness about the life changing work being done by a couple of small but incredible Christian organizations that are working tirelessly to fight suffering in the lives of women and children locally and/or globally. These organizations include Dalit Freedom Network and Mercy Ministries Canada (With goods that create change being sold by: Basha Blankets, Global Mothers and Good Coffee) and introducing The Ladies Man Project.
This will be a magical evening of dinner, musical entertainment from the incredible Chris Simmons and Debra De Vaughn (singing broadway and show tunes), live music from Jon Ochsendorf’s new album, a silent auction including work from the artist Kevin McBride, sharing life changing stories, connecting and making a difference…. all wrapped up by a dj and dance party for the young and young at heart starting at 10.
In order for this evening to make an impact though WE NEED YOUR HELP. Our goal is to have 300 people attend this event and although many amazing people have volunteered and are working to make this happen, the only way this night will work is if YOU INVITE PEOPLE. I know that there is absolutely no way I can pull this off alone, yet I don’t underestimate our power to make a difference TOGETHER, for as Margaret Mead said “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has”, and together we can use this night to make a difference!
So I am asking you to please consider sharing this event with your community and inviting your friends and family and coworkers.
I am also asking you to consider not only buying a ticket for yourself, but to consider purchasing a table or recruiting friends to buy a table together so that people in your community can come be inspired and be filled with hope even as they make a tangible difference in the lives of women and children around the globe. If 30 people committed to this, there would be 300 people at the gala bringing hope to women and children around the globe.
If you cannot make it that evening, I also urge you to consider buying a ” gift ticket” and gifting it back to us (again through contacting us at [email protected]), as we will then use it to give people who would not ordinarily have the means to attend such an event, the opportunity to take part in what will be a hope filled and inspiring evening.
Thank you SO MUCH for reading this and for being such a support to me and my family during the last couple years as I continue to recover from injury. You have made my life so much more blessed I am eternally grateful. Please consider joining me in this night, for together we really can fight suffering and bring hope to the lives of so many.
