About the Seminar:

Canadians approaching retirement are now the fastest growing demographic in the country. The sharp increase can be attributed to the aging “baby boom” generation, who account for almost one-third of the nation’s population. This emerging trend will have significant ministry consequences for many years for churches and the communities they serve. There will need to be an intentional approach to preparation and provision of ministries in order to respond to the possibilities of mission and service with both those in the church and others in the community needing care and compassion.

This seminar will review the emerging trends, the challenges of aging and the Christian framework for understanding the retirement time of life as part of our spiritual journey. The content and discussion will cover material and resources designed to help maturing adults (50+), either approaching or already in retirement to discover peace and purpose for this season of life through personal growth and ministry development. The legacy of faith, support of others and the presence and power of the Spirit has the potential to transform an ordinary retirement into an exceptional journey of discovery!

The topics will focus on gaining an appreciation of the differences between the “old retirement” vs. “new retirement” approach to aging, including:

  • fragmentation vs. wholeness
  • purposelessness vs. purposefulness
  • fixation vs. creative change
  • idle busyness vs. life enrichment
  • dependency vs. independence
  • self-absorption vs. healthy self-esteem
  • attitude of criticism vs. attitude of mentorship
  • alienation vs. involvement

The day will be planned for those preparing for eventual retirement, those already moving into or in retirement, spouses and family of future and current retirees, church personnel and helping professionals. Through videos, lectures and dialogue there will be opportunities to be resourced for both personal and group ministries within your family, local church and community.

Join us for this important conversation!
