Everyone has heard the term “diversity”, but some of us have heard it so many times that a certain fatigue has set in. The word begins to sound tired and empty. However, the societal division at its centre is deep, real, and has immense implications for who we are as a nation and what responsibilities we have to each other.
How does our view of diversity affect our city, our politics, and our community life? How does our faith impact our view and behaviour within our diverse city? How does our faith help us to dismantle false stereotypes and divisions in our society?
Join us on February 8 for the first in a series of discussions on “Diversity in the City”, where we aim to unpack the very real and painful experiences underpinning the terminology.
We will be joined by June Francis, Associate Professor of Marketing at the SFU Beedie School of Business and Director of the Sustainable Development Program in the Faculty of Environment. In 2014, June won the Canada Trust Teaching Award for teaching excellence at the Beedie School of Business and holds a PhD, a law degree, and an MBA.
We are looking forward to having an amazing discussion with June around the topic of diversity in our world, and would love for you to join us there.
