SUMMER FESTIVAL 2014
The Vancouver Early Music Festival is one of the largest festivals of its type in North America and runs over three weeks in July and August every year. It is a superb series of concerts featuring faculty and guest artists from all over the world.
THE HAND OF TIME – July 25 – August 9, 2014
“Lascia la spina, cogli la rosa” Leave the thorn, gather the rose,” Pleasure – from Handel’s Il Trionfo del Tempo.
Seeing and understanding our world through the lens of time is a natural way for us to focus our sense of who were are, where we come from, and where we are going. This festival celebrates key dates and anniversaries, explores musical representations of the times of day, plays with how we measure and keep time in music, studies different medieval concepts of the end of time and presents some of the most compelling musical arguments ever written for the essential value of beauty in our lives. – Matthew White, Artistic Director
