Theo Bessem is a Worship Leader, Songwriter and Recording Artist. She was born in Brighton, England to Ghanaian parents, but grew up partly in Zambia and in Ghana before returning to the UK in 1987.
It was in the year 1994 that Theo realized that God was giving her the ability to write songs. She seemed to be receiving songs in her spirit as complete downloads or in snippets. The songs came at random times: while driving, during or after the preaching of a sermon, in the early hours of the morning…
Her first “download” was a song called “Shoulder to Shoulder”, written after hearing a sermon preached by her Pastor. This song was recorded as a single in that same year.
Theo followed this recording with her debut album released in March 2002, which she called “This Far by Faith”, an album of 10 tracks, 8 of which were written by Theo.
In 2003, Theo felt the call of God to leave England and migrated with her family to Vancouver, B.C. She is currently the Director of Music and Arts and leads worship at Calvary Worship Centre a multicultural, non-denominational church with its main location in Surrey, B.C. She has held this position for the past 10 years. Her work also involves training and mentoring Worship Leaders.
Theo holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Ancient and Contemporary Worship Studies from Christ College in Surrey. She has had the privilege of leading worship for the past 22 years in various countries, churches and conferences with international headline speakers and her continued passion is to see the body of Christ come together to experience true worship on a highly intimate level.
