Author and cultural commentator Max Wyman (OC) will be the keynote speaker at the annual VST Chancellor’s Dinner on September 19, 2024.
Max Wyman (OC) is a prominent Canadian cultural commentator, talented writer, and member of the Order of Canada whose criticisms and analysis have been quietly shaping the nation for decades. A former member of the Canada Council for the Arts and President of the Canadian Commission of UNESCO, he wrote arts analysis and criticism for the Vancouver Sun, The Province, and CBC Radio for over thirty years. The most recent of his seven books on the arts in Canada is The Compassionate Imagination: How the arts are central to a functioning democracy (2023).
For his services to the arts, Mr. Wyman was made an Officer of the Order of Canada (2001) and received an honorary D.Litt. from Simon Fraser University (2003). He led the Canadian delegation to the World Conference on Arts Education in Portugal in 2006, and he was a keynote speaker at subsequent World Creativity Summits in Hong Kong, Taipei, and Newcastle.
The title of Mr. Wyman’s keynote lecture is Come Together, Right Now: How Art Can Save the World from Itself. VST is thrilled for this opportunity to learn from him.
About The VST Chancellor’s Dinner
The 2024 VST Chancellor’s Dinner is a gathering of caring individuals who recognize the enduring need for theological education to be thoughtful, engaged, and generous, and who
are courageously choosing to create that future. This year’s dinner will be held on Thursday, September 19 at the UBC Golf Club. Funds raised will support the Chancellor’s Awards, bursaries for international students, and the President’s Innovation Fund. The 2024 Chancellor’s Scholars, recipients of VST’s most generous award, will be honoured and presented with certificates by Chancellor Catherine Evans.
The evening will also feature music from the artistic director of the award-nominated Universal Gospel Choir and VST’s musician-in-residence, Lonnie Delisle.
Please contact VST for tickets. Tickets are $200 per person or $2,000 for tables of ten. A portion of this fee is eligible for a charitable receipt. Contact (604) 822-6315 or [email protected].
