Do you have an idea for an improvement but dont have the time or resources to implement it? Your idea could be for something totally new or a change to an existing process. But you need to organize a team of people from different parts of your organization, perhaps including some volunteers. How do you get people who may be interested in your idea but are too busy with their duties to commit to your project? How do you work out a schedule and determine where there is room for delays and when there is not? How do you access risk and plan an appropriate response?
There is good news. Others in your position have put together a set of best practices and called it the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). Projects are temporary, unique activities that are not part of regular operations. They help organizations develop new capacities to better attain their mission. Organizations that have never used project management methodology report significant growth in their capacity in the first year of
adoption.
This workshop will introduce you to project management:
- a framework of knowledge, processes, tools and techniques;
- five process groups: initiate, plan, execute, monitor and control, and close;
- nine knowledge areas: scope, time, cost, human resources, quality, communication, risk, procurement, and integration;
- highlight key concepts that will give you immediate results: project sponsorship, stakeholder management, the triple constraint, and the responsibility assignment matrix.
The benefits to your team after this introductory workshop:
- a common framework and vocabulary to run projects;
- quick wins by applying basic key concepts;
- identify areas of interest for specific team members.
Workshop Schedule:
- 9am 12pm: Presentation and group discussion, with a morning break;
- 12pm 1pm: Lunch break (on your own);
- 1pm 3pm: (optional; for full day participants only) Plan your own project; the presenter will provide individual guidance.
