The Regent Bookstore is very pleased to host Dr. Jesse Nickel on Saturday, February 17, for our second Bible Saturday of 2024. Jesse is a graduate of Regent College, went on to PhD studies with Dr. N.T. (Tom) Wright, and teaches biblical studies at Columbia Bible College in Abbotsford.
ABOUT THE LECTURE
Jesus is widely perceived as having been against violence and for peace. But is that perception accurate to what we find in the Gospels? How are violence and peacemaking connected to Jesus’s ministry? Did Jesus consider this to be an issue of great significance, or more peripheral to his main goals? And how ought this to impact contemporary Christian discipleship?
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Jesse Nickel teaches biblical studies as part of the faculty of Columbia Bible College in Abbotsford, BC. After serving as youth pastor at Peace Mennonite Church for several years, Jesse studied the New Testament at Regent College and the University of St Andrews before taking up his current position. He is passionate about continuing to get to know Jesus more deeply with both his mind and heart, and teaching others about the already/not-yet, shalom-centred kingdom of God.
