Date: Saturday, Oct. 25 Location: Carey Centre (5920 Iona Drive, UBC) Time: 9:00-3:00 Cost: $89/person Presenter: Kristen Gilje Come explore the beauty and ease of painting silk dye on silk as we explore the seasonal colors of the liturgical church year. With the themes for each season as our inspiration, we will spend the morning on basic silk painting technique and individual experimentation. In the afternoon we will discuss how to make a large silk painting as a group, with the opportunity to create a simple seasonal banner as a group project. You can expect to go home with one or two experimental individual pieces, access to the group project banner on loan from Carey Institute to your church or group, and basic how-to knowledge to share with others.Student Silk Painting Supply List
About Kristen Gilje:
Kristen has been working with liturgical arts for many years. Part of her artistic mission is to draw a deeper connection from the sacred drama of rite and ritual to the rhythms and lessons of the Earth, God’s sacred creation. She is a painter, using oils, watercolors, acrylic and hand-painted silk to create paraments, banners and paintings for church use. Artist in Residence for almost 10 years at Holden Village,near Chelan, WA, she is experienced in making art in community and as community. She values the ability of art to shape and focus a worshiping community around an idea through art, and loves to teach others these skills. Kristen now works in her Bellingham WA studio. Her art can be seen in Northwest churches and churches around the United States.
