Many questions are asked about the Old Testament, some of the most common ones we hear in today’s society are:
- “Is the Old Testament still relevant to Christians today?”
- “Why do we need the Old Testament at all? Isn’t Jesus enough?”
- “If God is good, why is there so much violence in it?”
The New Atheist movement often decries the Old Testament as violent, controlling and irrelevant in today’s world. But these criticisms are not only shortsighted, they overlook the true purpose of the Old Testament. This November, Coquitlam Alliance Church will be holding a conference on the true meaning and relevance of the Old Testament, hosted by Iain Provan, Marshall Sheppard Professor of Biblical Studies at Regent College. If you’ve ever had any questions about the Old Testament, this conference is for you!
Iain will also be giving a guest sermon at Ethos on November 2nd, entitled “Why Can’t We Have a Smaller Bible? The Necessity of the Old Testament.”
You can register in advance for the conference here:*
*Note: Registration and payment is only for the Saturday conference, you don’t have to pay to attend the sermon at Ethos; just show up and invite your friends along!
