“Deconstructing Faith” is the cover essay in the Sep/Oct 2021 issue of Faith Today: Canada’s Christian magazine. It examines the trend among Christians “who doubt that the faith they have received is the fully refined good God intends, and are seeking to sift out the dross and keep what is most precious.”
Many Christians who use the term deconstruction today are either shifting from one Christian tradition to another or else they are leaving Christianity entirely, according to Peter Schuurman.
Schuurman, who interviewed and read widely in order to write about this topic for Faith Today, will be our special guest in this webinar. He’s an adjunct professor of religion and theology at Redeemer University in Ancaster, Ont., and author of a book on an Ontario megachurch, The Subversive Evangelical: The Ironic Charisma of an Irreligious Megachurch (McGill-Queen’s, 2019). He’s also executive director of Global Scholars Canada, which supports Christian scholars in public universities worldwide, and contributing editor at the periodical Christian Courier.
This discussion will be hosted by Faith Today editors Karen Stiller and Bill Fledderus.
