“The righteous man walks in his integrity—blessed are his children after him!” (Proverbs 20:7)
“Fatherhood As Leadership” is the theme for this year’s conference. Fatherhood is leadership and leadership is responsibility. Anyone can become a father. But it takes someone special to be one. Each day, we make deposits in the memory banks of our children which ultimately shape their character and destiny. Someone said, “A man’s children and his garden both reflect the amount of weeding done during the growing season.” As fathers, we understand that we have the awesome responsibility to image forth God’s love and character to our family. At the same time, we understand that this responsibility is beyond our powers. We need help. We need the loving help of our wives, the cooperation of our children, and the kind of support of the congregations as well as the communities to which we belong. But ultimately, we need God’s help. Elizabeth Elliot once said, “If you take being a father seriously, you’ll know that you are not big enough for the job, not by yourself. Being a father will put you on your knees if nothing else ever did.” God is the archetypal Father. All other fatherhood is a more or less imperfect copy of his perfect fatherhood (F. F. Bruce).
If you are a father, this conference is definitely for you. We want to encourage and help you become a better servant of the LORD, a better husband, a better father, a better son, a better friend, a better brother, a better uncle, a better neighbour, a better leader, a better mentor to those who look up to you, and a better follower to those under whose leadership the LORD has placed you.
But this conference is not just for fathers. It’s also for mothers, uncles, aunties, grandmothers and grandfathers, etc. You too have a role to play in helping the men in your lives become better fathers. If you are a solo parent (especially single moms), you will greatly benefit from this conference as we discuss how you can enlist the help of others fathers, in the upbringing of your boys and girls. Single men and women who hope to one day be married and have children, will learn valuable lessons on parenting from this conference. I cordially invite to join us at this conference.
I have invited a few close friends to join me in addressing this very important topic. Among them are Dr. Conrad Mbewe, pastor of Kabwata Baptist Church in Lusaka, Zambia, Michael Kane, Chairman of the Kane Group, Nadia Stewart, a video journalist with the Global News in Vancouver and Mark Reimer, Physical Education teacher at White Rock Christian Academy.
We encourage husbands and wives to attend this conference together. Single Moms and single Dads as well as unmarried men and women will greatly benefit from the issues that will be addressed at this conference.
The conference will run from Friday, July 28, 2018 to Saturday, July 29, 2018. Please register to attend and stay tuned for more details.
