Please join the Regent College Bookstore for a conversation with Dr. Philip Jenkins about his recent publication, Fertility and Faith: The Demographic Revolution and the Transformation of World Religions.

Demography drives religious change. High-fertility societies, like most of contemporary Africa, tend to be fervent and devout. The lower a population’s fertility rates, the greater the tendency for people to detach from organized or institutional religion. Thus, fertility rates supply an effective gauge of secularization trends. In Fertility and Faith, Philip Jenkins maps the demographic revolution that has taken hold of many countries around the globe in recent decades and explores the implications for the future development of the world’s religions.

Dr. Philip Jenkins is Distinguished Professor of History at Baylor University, and co-director for Baylor’s Program on Historical Studies of Religion in the Institute for Studies of Religion. He is also the Edwin Erle Sparks Professor of Humanities Emeritus at Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Jenkins is the author of numerous articles and books, including the most recent Crucible of Faith: The Ancient Revolution that Made Our Modern Religious World (2017) and Fertility and Faith: The Demographic Revolution and the Transformation of World Religions (2020).

Fertility and Faith can be purchased through the Regent College Bookstore here.
