Streams of Justice will be hosting a public forum on climate change on Nov 16th, just days before the UN Climate Summit in Paris and the Global Climate March in Vancouver on Nov 29th.
Climate change has become the burning issue of our time as global warming increasingly threatens sustainable life on the planet. Rising global temperatures have been linked to unprecedented dependence on fossil fuel extraction and consumption, reliance on corporate industrial agriculture, and ideological embrace of endless economic growth for the sake of expanding profits. In light of the upcoming UN Climate Summit in Paris, this forum will explore some of the root causes and driving mechanisms of climate change, learn from communities devastatingly impacted by it, and probe future prospects for radical and necessary change in order to avert global disaster.
Special Guests:
- Harjap Grewal (Council of Canadians, NOII) – driving forces of climate change: consolidation of corporate power through international trade deals
- Chaya Go (UBC grad student; relief worker after super typhoon Haiyan) – community impact of climate change: experiences of disaster from the global south
- Brad Hornick (active with Climate Convergence) – climate science, socio-economic roots of the climate crisis, radicalization of activism, and what to expect in Paris
