VIP Young Artist Concerts with Daniel Lapp and ViBE Senior Chamber Choir, at Christ Church Cathedral, Vancouver, BC
From early jazz and gospel music mixing it up in Louis Armstrong’s New Orleans, the gospel influence on the music of Charles Mingus, Ella Fitzgerald singing Spirituals, Duke Ellington’s Sacred Concerts, Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Centre Orchestra’s Gospel Celebration and Kirk Whalum’s “Gospel According to Jazz” series, the connection of Jazz and Gospel Music has been vibrant and strong since the early days of the 20th Century.
Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir welcomes the return of Daniel Lapp to the stage in this mighty celebration of all things gospel and jazz. A world-renowned singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, teacher, archivist, band leader, sideman, producer, promoter and – no kidding – the list goes on, Daniel has played on over 100 albums and performed with artists including Spirit of the West Rickie Lee Jones, Barney Bentall, Mae Moore, Beth Orton and Kathryn Tickell. Lapp has toured internationally with some of the world’s most renowned Folk and Jazz musicians and was a feature performer at EXPO 2000 in Germany and the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games Opening Ceremonies. Jazz will meet Gospel with the passion and power of well over 100 glorious voices and the exceptional talent of one of Canada’s finest musicians.
With a continuing focus on promoting and music education and musical opportunities for young people, Good Noise welcomes “ViBE” (Holy Cross Regional High School Chamber Choir) as part of this VIP Young Artist Concert series.
