About the Artist
Cree artist Jerry Whitehead was born in 1957 to the James Smith Band in Saskatchewan. He went to the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Prior to that he attended the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College, Univerity of Regina and received a Bachelor of Arts in Indian Art.
When Jerry was growing up, the color, power, and fluidity of pow-wow dancers made a lasting impression on him. These dancers have formed the backbone of his art.
Jerry’s works are collected throughout North America and around the world. He paints in bright acrylic colours on canvas and acid free papers. He currently resides in Vancouver, British Columbia but his work can be seen throughout western Canada. He has displays in Saskatchewan at Artworks in Saskatoon and at the Wanuskewin Heritage Park.
