The Trans Mountain Expansion Project has called national attention to issues of fossil fuel extraction and Indigenous rights to land during the climate and ecological crises. Drawing on interviews conducted
with non-Indigenous land and water defenders, I will explore the ways religious and nonreligious individuals conceptualize their opposition to the Project, as shaped by their subjective worldviews and cosmologies. In so doing I will utilize theories of environmental and ecological justice and demonstrate their applicability in the context of Canadian society.
