In this time of increasing violence in Canada and around the world, where we have witnessed the random attack and murder of three RCMP officers in New Brunswick, the slaying of two Catholic priests in isolated incidents in the USA, numerous school shootings in Washington and California, and the escalating violence in Iraq, Syria and other parts of the Middle East, the violence of abortion only adds to humanity’s woes.
Forces are intensifying especially in the Maritime Provinces, where the US-based National Abortion Federation (NAF) has been pressuring governments in PEI and New Brunswick to expand their abortion practices. Currently PEI uses tax dollars to pay for off-Island abortions. In New Brunswick, the government already pays for hospital abortions, and has refused to cover the ailing private abortion clinic, now under threat of closure.
Pro-abortion forces from both inside and outside these provinces are pressuring the respective governments to provide tax-payer funded abortion on demand in both public and private facilities.
The pressure on both provincial governments has been intense, and to make matters worse, pro-abortion advocates Dr. Colleen MacQuarrie, Dr. Tracy Penny Light and Dr. Shannon Stettner are hosting a “first international conference on abortion” entitled Abortion: The Unfinished Revolution, to be held at the University of PEI on August 7-8th, 2014.
LifeCanada does not have big American-based organizations behind us. We do not have impressive sounding academics or media pundits on our side. Government funding is not accessible to us, nor can we lay claim to tax-payers’ money. Our funding comes solely through generous individuals.
But we do have the support of the people, the grassroots, who by their common sense see more abortion as an unnecessary evil. And we have the power of prayer. With these two formidable realities, LifeCanada is hosting a National Day or Prayer and Fasting for the abortion issue in Canada. We truly believe that if God is with us, who can be against us?
Prayer has always been a means of defending the most innocent. Prayer is a great civilizer – it brings about forgiveness, understanding, healing and the grace to see life from the perspective of God Himself.
Prayer is the most powerful way to bring about peace and a respect for the greatness and dignity of human life, no matter what its stage of development, its creed, or its nationality. Fasting solidifies our resolve to make these things happen with God’s help.
Please promote this important endeavour, along with the attached poster, to your church groups, and encourage your friends and family to take part in this day as well. We ask that you devote yourself to prayer and fasting in whatever way you can.
On August 1st, join LifeCanada as we pray and fast for respect for all human life. Peace begins in the womb.
