Families looking for a way to help the Philippines recover from the devastation of Typhoon Haiyan are being invited to attend a fun-filled benefit concert to be held December 20 at 4370 Sophia Street (Cityview Church) from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.
The event will feature local musical talents, such as HUM (Healing Using Music). People will have opportunity to make a cash donation to the Canadian Red Cross Typhoon Haiyan Relief Fund. One hundred per cent of the funds raised will go to the relief fund.
Typhoon Haiyan, which struck the central Philippines on November 8, was the deadliest natural disaster in the country’s history, and one of the most powerful typhoons ever recorded.
In its wake, more than 5,000 Filipinos had been killed and many more remain missing. Over a million homes were damaged, leaving residents in the worst-hit areas without proper shelter.
Funds raised from the benefit concert will support Red Cross relief efforts. These include a field hospital operating at full capacity on the island of Leyte, and the distribution of food, clean water, hygiene kits, and other essential aid, both immediately and in the longer term.
Let us invoke the holiday spirit and come together for our brothers and sisters in the Philippines. Generosity knows no borders. If you cannot attend the event, please consider donating online at www.redcross.ca or by phone at 1-800-418-1111.
