AFFIRM Films, a Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. (SPE) company, and Provident Films are pleased to announce the August 23 release of the brand new, highly-anticipated Kendrick brothers film, OVERCOMER. On the heels of the hit film, WAR ROOM, director Alex Kendrick will return to the big screen along with Shari Rigby (OCTOBER BABY, WILDFLOWER), Priscilla Shirer (WAR ROOM, I CAN ONLY IMAGINE), Cameron Arnett (Meet the Browns, STAND YOUR GROUND) and newcomer Aryn Wright-Thompson.
Writer and director Alex Kendrick stars as the lead in this exciting sports drama, taking viewers on a journey of self-discovery, when everything he once valued is taken away. Filled with a powerful mix of faith, humour, and a ton of heart, OVERCOMER follows the Kendricks’ previous features FACING THE GIANTS, FIREPROOF, COURAGEOUS, and WAR ROOM.
“Everyone needs to answer the questions of ‘who is God,’ and ‘who am I,’” explains producer Stephen Kendrick. “We want to ask the audience those questions by showing them someone they can relate to. We want people to know who they are and that they’re loved by God. OVERCOMER is a discovery of who gets to determine our identity and what we have to overcome to embrace the life God has for us,” says Alex Kendrick.
Life changes overnight for coach John Harrison when his high school basketball team and state championship dreams are crushed under the weight of an unexpected twist. When the largest manufacturing plant shuts down and hundreds of families leave town, John questions the future of his family and his team. After reluctantly agreeing to coach cross-country, John and his wife, Amy, meet an aspiring athlete, Hannah, who pushes her limits on a journey toward her own self-discovery. Inspired by the words and prayers of a new-found friend, John becomes the least likely coach helping the least likely runner attempt the impossible in the biggest race of the year.
