Learn about the ancient practice of creating beautifully decorated Pysanky eggs, which date back to before the arrival of Christianity in eastern Europe. Filled with Christian and pre-Christian designs and symbols, these eggs are a wonderful way to explore the ways that art and spirituality connect and inform each other.
In this online workshop, participants will receive a kit with everything needed* to start making Pysanky eggs at home as well as two hours of conversation and instruction with Joan Brander, a local artist who has dedicated decades to preserving and sharing the art of Pysanky.
This workshop is appropriate for all ages, from 6 to 96, so bring the whole family and learn about this cultural tradition and explore the connection between art and spirituality.
Kits will be available for pick up a week before the workshop at St. Faith’s Anglican Church. If you are at a distance and want a kit mailed to you, please register no later than March 16, and notify the church office right away at 604.266.8011 to request a mail out so that there is time for the kit to arrive before the workshop. If you have five or more participants, please contact the church office for assistance with registration.
*Except the egg.
