TWU INKLINGS INSTITUTE EVENT
Roger Lancelyn Green: Orphaned Inkling C.S. Lewis dedicated The Discarded Image to Roger Lancelyn Green (1918-1987), Lewis suggested to Green in 1953 that he write Lewis’ biography, and it was Green who travelled with Lewis to Greece in 1960.
Green was a creative and exquisite re-teller of classical Greek, English, Nordic and Egyptian myths, and his biographies of Andrew Lang, Lewis Carroll. J.M. Barrie, Rudyard Kipling, and, of course, Lewis offer rich and imaginative insights into classical myth.
Although Green wrote 12 biographies and more than 25 fiction books, he is regularly ignored in Inklings studies. Yet, he is one of the best of them. This lecture will reflect on Green as an Inkling but also on the fact that he is an often forgotten “Inklings orphan.”
Ron Dart teaches in the Department of Political Science, Philosophy and Religious Studies at the University of the Fraser Valley. He is the author of C.S. Lewis and Bede Griffiths: Chief Companions (2016) and has written numerous articles on C.S. Lewis and the Inklings.
When: Monday January 24 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Where: This event will be held on Zoom.
