Join us for a special Toque Sessions concert – “Freedom Singer”
Freedom Singer is an inspiring concert created by Khari McClelland, an African-Canadian singer and songwriter, and member of the lauded gospel group, The Sojourners.
McClelland has unearthed a number of songs from the era of the Underground Railroad. A stellar band plus a six-member choir will stand beside Khari to sing, bear witness, and engage with the stories of McClelland’s own great-great-great grandmother’s escape to refuge and safety in Canada.
Performers: Khari Wendell McClelland, Marcus Mosley, Will Sanders, Karina Morin, Dawn Pemberton,
Kristie McCracken, Juhli Conlinn, Noah Walker, Tyson Naylor, Rob Becker, John Raham.
This free concert will take place at the CBC Vancouver Broadcast Centre and will be hosted by CBC Radio One’s
B.C. Almanac host Gloria Macarenko.
