It is fitting that a week after Easter, on Refugee Awareness Sunday, an art show titled Song of My Salvation will be hosted at Willoughby Church. The works are by Violet Behzadian, an art and architecture professor who fled her native Iran rather than renounce her faith after converting to Christianity in 2006. She eventually came to Ladner accompanied by her husband and young son, where they were befriended by members of the Ladner CRC. It is through this connection that the show comes to us.
The series of paintings that are on display are part of an art exhibit that hung in the Regent College Lookout Gallery earlier this year. The paintings, all depicting women, are a reflection of Behzadian’s own journey of living into God’s grace in her journey of faith and freedom. The 17 works are on loan by the artist through the end of April.
This Sunday (April 23), following the worship service (11:30 – 12:30), you will have opportunity to meet artist Violet Behzadian, to hear her story of faith and to be inspired by the gifts God has given her to sing the song of His salvation.
We acknowledge and are grateful for the support of John and Bev Bandstra in bringing this show to Willoughby Church.
