Free public reception and lecture: Merton Lecture with Jim Forest, “Thomas Merton: One Foot in the Wilderness, One Foot in the World”. Thomas Merton was a Trappist monk living in solitude, without phone, radio or television, and at the same time, through his writings, correspondence and visitors, a man deeply engaged in the world and its troubles, from racism to war. His books, best-sellers in many languages, continue to be widely read and discussed.
6 pm reception — VST atrium; 7 pm lecture – Epiphany Chapel
