Little Flower Monastery at Carmel Hill
An Ignatian Silent Prayer Retreat on how and where to find the voice of God in one’s personal prayer, facilitated by City in Focus’s partner Christopher Chiu, who is also a member of SoulStream and the Jesuit Spirituality Apostolate of Vancouver.
Retreatants will practice hearing God’s voice in the classical prayer disciplines within the Ignatian tradition, such as Ignatian Meditation (Praying with Scripture), the Examen, Ignatian Contemplation (Imaginative Prayer), etc.
Time will be spent in short teaching periods on methods of praying interspersed with long periods of solitude and silence. Spiritual Direction will be available.
In the 2-night track the group will also practice with the tools commonly used in Ignatian discernment (e.g. consolation, desolation, Ignatian indifference).

Details for retreatants during registration:
Outside the prayer periods, we will be living and experiencing the Presence of God in whatever activity we may choose to do, such as walking, doing a craft or just chilling out. This is assisted by silence and the removal of oneself from distractions. As such, we kindly ask you:
– Not to bring reading materials (not even spiritual books)
– Turn off all electronic devices during the time of the retreat (e.g. cellphones, laptops, tablets, i-Pods, etc)
Please bring:
– A physical Bible (preferred over electronic versions)
– Pen and paper for note-taking
– Prayer Journal (optional)
– Appropriate clothing for going outside (if one intends to go for a walk during free-time in solitude)
– A craft to do (optional) when not praying (i.e. a not-so-cognitive activity such as knitting, jigsaws, drawing, etc).
