The BC Leadership Dinner Committee is honoured to announce that our evening speaker will be Canada’s first Ambassador for Religious Freedom and Head of the Office of Religious Freedom, Dr. Andrew Bennett.

Religious freedom is being increasingly tested by society, governments and in our justice system.  It is now a central issue affecting all of us: our churches, educational institutions and our workplaces.  Many Christians working in society are having their own ethical and moral freedoms being debated and challenged.

The Provincial Leadership Dinner is a special gathering of the faith community on the eve of the BC Leadership Prayer Breakfast. It is an occasion for people of faith and for those who support the Prayer Breakfast to come together in an intimate setting in order to share dinner and conversation.

A man of deep Christian faith, Dr. Bennett will discuss the dynamics of faith in the midst of an increasingly multicultural, multifaith and secular community.

The former Ambassador is now a Senior Fellow at Cardus where he also serves as Program Director for Cardus Law and Chair of the Cabinet of Canadians for Cardus’ Faith in Canada 150 initiative.

In his role as Chair of the Cabinet of Canadians, Dr. Bennett leads a group of Canadians from a variety of faith traditions and walks of life. This esteemed group are helping to guide our conversations about faith in our common life as we celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary.  The Cabinet includes:

Bruce Clemeger: President, Evangelical Fellowship of Canada

Cardinal Thomas Collins: Archbishop of Toronto

Shachi Kurl:  Executive Director of the Angus Reid Institute

Palbinder Shergill,QC: Legal Counsel: World Sikhs of Canada

Rabbi Shimon Fogel: CEO, Centre of Israel and Jewish Affairs

Brian Stiller: Global Ambassador World Evangelical Alliance

David Toycen, Former President, CEO of World Vision Canada

Andrew holds degrees in History from Dalhousie and McGill as well as a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Edinburgh. He is active in the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church at the parish of St. John the Baptist in Ottawa. Andrew also loves Bach, Bluegrass and fishing.

Among the guests in attendance will also be Prayer Breakfast table hosts and some previous speakers, sponsors, patrons, some head table guest and former committee Chairs. The 2017 BC Leadership Prayer Breakfast speaker, the President of UBC Dr. Santa Ono, will also be in attendance for the dinner reception.

This year’s will be our second annual Provincial Leadership Dinner, as a further occasion to celebrate the success of the BC Leadership Prayer Breakfast and to gather the faith community together in support of this event.
