Join us for a public talk and retreat with renowned Merton scholar Douglas E. Christie! Doug is traveling up from LA, where he is a Professor of Theological Studies at Loyola Marymount University, to reflect with us on May 26 and 27. Both events will take place at St. Andrew’s United Church, 1044 St. Georges Ave in North Vancouver.
At a public talk on May 26 at 7:00 pm PT, “Spirituality and Community in a Time of Loss”, Doug will examine the place of darkness in our lives. We’ll discover what it can mean for us to enter and inhabit this vast space of unknowing with its “hidden ground of love”. Admission by donation, no registration required.
On My 27 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm PT, Doug will lead a retreat called “The Desert Within”. He’ll draw upon the image of the desert to consider what it might mean for us to incorporate silence, stillness, and solitude into our own spiritual practices.
