A New Creation

Henri Nouwen’s Vision for Planet Earth

A morning retreat led by Robert A. Jonas, EdD

When Fr. Henri Nouwen died suddenly in 1996 he was one of the most well-known religious figures in the United States. He taught at Notre Dame, Yale and Harvard, and had written almost forty books on spirituality. In all his writings Fr. Nouwen spoke of our belovedness in God.

Nouwen’s spiritual vision applies to each of us personally, to our families and communities and to all creation.

Drawing on his close friendship with Nouwen and his research for two books on Nouwen, Dr. Jonas will explore how Nouwen’s vision of personal and planetary belovedness can inspire our lives and work.

The retreat will include a presentation on Nouwen’s life and writing, silent meditation, music, small group sharing, and a short film of Nouwen preaching at the Crystal Cathedral.

Robert Jonas, EdD, MTS, is the director of The Empty Bell, a contemplative sanctuary in Northampton, MA (emptybell.org). Trained as a psychologist at Harvard and as a theologian at Weston Jesuit School of Theology, Jonas is now a retreat leader, author, musician, video artist and climate activist. A Christian in the Carmelite tradition, he has also received spiritual formation with Buddhist teachers.  He is a student of Sui-Zen, the Japanese bamboo flute (shakuhachi) and his CD, Blowing Bamboo, can be found on iTunes.
