ADVENT TALKS – FALL 2014

WHO IS MY NEIGHBOUR?

Tuesday, December 2, 9 and 16th, 7:00-9:00pm St. Mary’s Kerrisdale

On the first three Tuesday evenings of Advent we’ll be thinking about this and on the responsibilities that might follow from the answer(s) to the question.

December 2, Archbishop Douglas Hambidge

He’s no stranger to us at St. Mary’s having often preached here as well as having led us in discussions. His experience as a neighbour is a rich one. He was adopted by the Nisga’a into their Raven family back in 1969.  This adoption was no mere formality, and he’ll have much to share with us based on his experience, not only with the Nisga’a but also with other First Nations families. Register for the December 2nd, free event.

December 9th, Debra Sparrow

Debra was born and raised on Musqueam land. An internationally acclaimed weaver, she has been deeply involved with the revival of Musqueam weaving.  Her grandfather passed on to her “300 years of stories”. She writes that, “because I was blessed to have this time with him I know who I am, I know my history. I know where I come from”.

December 16th, Miles Richardson

He grew up on Haida Gwai and between 1984 and 1999 was President of the Council of the Haida Nation.  He’s a Director of Canadians for a New Partnership, a non-profit organization formed in September which aims to tackle problems facing aboriginal Canadians.
