This one day seminar is for all volunteers, parents, and paid staff who are involved with children and family ministries in their local church. Carey Institute and the CBWC Children and Family Missional Network invite you to join them for an important day of resourcing, encouragement, and networking. Sherry will build upon some of the topics discussed in “It Takes a Village: Nurturing Children in Faith For a Lifetime” but it is not a prerequisite to this session.
About the Seminar:
“Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.” Joshua’s famous challenge to the Israelites called them to be a people set apart for worshipping Yahweh amidst the false idols and distractions in the world around them. Families today continue in this clash of cultures. As Christ followers, we are to be a people set apart in the ways and purposes of God. Does this call to holy living affect our view of children, family and parenting? Does the Biblical picture of the whole people of God really shape our understanding of discipleship and mission?
Looking to scripture as a model for authentic life as the intergenerational body of Christ, we find guidance for building our homes and churches not with a brick-and-mortar view, but with a view to Kingdom values. This seminar, through teaching, discussion and practical application will allow parents and ministry workers alike to consider a vision of holy living in our families and churches that is counter cultural, intergenerational in nature and firmly rooted in Christ.
About the Presenter:
Sherry has been involved in education and ministry to children and families for over 35 years. She has a passion to see children and families fall in love with Jesus and become engaged, together with God’s people, in the advancement of the Kingdom of God. Sherry holds a Bachelor of Education degree and a Master of Pastoral Ministry degree, which have equipped her for ministry to children and families in her school, her home church and in her role as Children and Families Ministry Coordinator (CFam) for the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada. Sherry also teaches grade 3 at Vancouver Christian School. She lives in Burnaby British Columbia with her husband and enjoys their ministry together at Southside Community Church and just ‘doing life together’ with family and friends.
