Climate-induced migration–when people are forced to leave their homes due to extreme weather events or slow-onset environmental changes–is not a foreign concept for Canadians, as our 2023 wildfire season forced more than 200,000 people out of their homes. But when it comes to those fleeing extreme weather in other countries, Canada’s migration policies don’t provide any legal pathway to grant asylum.

We need to envision and communicate how we want our country to support climate migrants. We invite you to a discussion with CPJ policy experts and migration advocates where we’ll brainstorm a safe path forward for climate migrants.

Join us on Thursday, October 9 at 7 p.m. EDT for our webinar, Brainstorming a safe path forward for climate migrants: Canada’s obligations and opportunities

Register for our webinar where we’ll work together to brainstorm a safe path forward for climate migrants in Canada.
