Those who gathered at Streams of Justice September 23 shared their experiences and reflections from the previous week of events at the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. It was good to share these together and hear from one another the thoughts and feelings that were stirred up by participating in various TRC gatherings.

There was a sense by the end of the evening that we needed to continue the discussion, especially regarding our own responsibilities as non-indigenous witnesses to the things we saw and heard.

In this light, we will gather again on Monday, Oct 28th@ 6:30 pm for another potluck meal and conversation.

We will move from sharing experiences and reflections to engaging in critical analysis. We need to understand residential schools within the context of colonialism, to probe the political, economic and ideological forces that produced and sustained the colonial structures of domination, to consider how those forces continue to operate, and to imagine how they might be challenged and changed in our current context.

We hope you’ll be able to join in this discussion; such conversations are crucial in the ongoing journey of decolonization for settlers.
