DRAMATIC READING

On Saturday Oct. 31st, at 2.00 pm as part of the Heart of the City Festival, St. James’ will present a dramatic reading of a radio play, The Man Born to be King, by Dorothy L. Sayers.

Our production comes from a twelve-part radio drama based on the life of Jesus. It was originally broadcast by the BBC beginning in October 1942 (during World War II). Today we will hear the first play in the cycle, Kings in Judea. The fact that Jesus and the other biblical characters spoke in contemporary colloquial English rather than using the formal words of the Bible was a source of controversy at the time. By setting the story of Christ’s life in England in the twentieth century, Sayers brings a sense of immediacy and relevance to the biblical narrative. Please come

This is part of an Open House (10:30 am – 4:00 pm), which is part of Heart of the City festival – an all-day opportunity to visit the church, learn of its history and experience its ancient practices.
