You are invited to join Union GospelMission & Planted Community Food Network for an afternoon workshop on the importance understanding how “Everybody Copes,” why we need to understand addiction and what that has to do with community programs, especially shared meals & other food programs.

No person grows up hoping to one day become an addict. And contrary to common understanding, addiction has less to do with substance abuse and a lot to do with coping mechanisms. This seminar explores the different ways we all learn to cope and why understanding this is central to how we help others and ourselves through community programs.

Participants will learn:

•   Definitions of important terms in addiction and recovery

•   Different types of addiction

•   How the brain works

•   The goals of recovery

Who should attend?

Anyone interested in learning about addiction, recovery and how to build stronger communities.
