We’re looking forward to seeing you next week at First CRC for our next conversation around food security, how the church can support and participate, and how we might move forward together as a network.

If you were unable to attend our first meeting back in April, that’s okay! You are welcome and encouraged to join us and share your questions, knowledge and ideas.

We’re glad to be joined by Karen Giesbrecht as she helps us think about what this network can look like and she shares her experience and specialty around the intersection of food security, nutrition, substance use and addiction and the needs of vulnerable communities.

You can learn more about Karen below.

We hope you’ll share a meal with us as we continue this important and timely conversation.

See you on October 8!

About Karen

Karen Giesbrecht is a registered dietitian with a particular interest in mental health, strong communities, good stories, and real food.

She wove all these together in Happy Colon, Happy Soul: An Exploration of Why and How we Share Food (Wipf & Stock: 2019).

She studied dietetics at UBC, practiced for several years, then returned to school for a master’s degree in healthcare leadership.

Karen now works at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, in a program called Road to Recovery, where she is constantly inspired by the ways that good food fosters connections and recovery from substance use disorders.
