The New Testament Book of Hebrews, which deals with perspective and perseverance in difficult times, stands as one of the most needed ancient writings for the modern church. The book, an early Christian sermon that unpacks Jesus’s fulfillment of the Old Testament, can also be hard to follow and understand. Yet, in the past three decades, fresh scholarship on Hebrews has helped unlock its message. This lecture presents examples of recent research to show the relevance of this beautiful book for critical times in the modern world.

George Guthrie is Professor of New Testament at Regent College. A recognized authority on Hebrews, George has authored and contributed to a number of commentaries on the book. He is passionate about equipping church leaders and laypeople to read and live the Bible more effectively.

Dr. Guthrie will be teaching the course Seeing Jesus More Clearly: The Christology of Hebrews from July 26-30 as part of Regent’s 2021 Summer Programs.
