ABOUT THE EXHIBIT

Ghislain Brown-Kossi’s artwork tells unique stories without using words. The artist has created symbols in his artwork that can be comprehended by viewers of all cultures and backgrounds. This visual and universal language of symbols creates a powerful connection between the artist and the world and stirs curiosity about our connectedness.

Inspired by visits to museums and archeological sites in France, the Ivory Coast, and other countries of his heritage, Brown-Kossi creates his pieces by juxtaposing plaster and sand against vivid pop hues to encapsulate what has been forgotten alongside what lies ahead waiting to be discovered.

ARTIST BIO

Born in Lyon and raised near Paris, France, Brown-Kossi experienced a great deal of diversity throughout his childhood and school years. The heritage of his family, originally from the Ivory Coast, provides the artist with a rich background of mixed dialects and languages. Having had his first photographic exhibition in an apartment in Paris, he has since exhibited in France, England, and Canada.

Brown-Kossi currently lives and works in Vancouver, British Columbia. His work has been featured in Art Hole 2021 (London, UK), in group exhibition ArtRich 2021 with the Richmond Arts Coalition (Richmond, BC), at the Art Gallery at Evergreen (Coquitlam, BC), and as part of a four-person exhibition at the Gibsons Public Art Gallery in 2022 curated by France Trepanier and the CCAFCB (Conseil culturel et artistique francophones de la Colombie-Britannique). Brown-Kossi is a member of several professional art associations.
