At 2 pm come to the corner of Gore and E. Cordova, or stop outdoors in the surrounding neighbourhood, and listen for the ringing of the bells from St. James’ Anglican Church for All Souls’ Day, the Day of the Dead. “The bells at St. James”, with a full octave range, were cast in 1937 in Loughborough, England, and continue sounding to this day. The tenor bell, weighing two tons, is the bell that’s heard tolling, and for special occasions, all eight bells play together.
