Northwest Baptist Seminary to host inaugural International Conference on Competency-Based Theological Education
Vancouver, British Columbia
Northwest Baptist Seminary is pleased to announce that we will be hosting CBTE 2018, the first annual International Conference on Competency-Based Theological Education on November 5-6, 2018 at the Pinnacle Harbourfront Hotel in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Context-Based Theological Education (CBTE) is an educational philosophy that designs theological degrees around prescribed competencies (skills, knowledge, abilities, and attitudes). Instead of being given a list of courses that must be passed in order to graduate, students in competency-based programs receive a résumé of competencies that must be mastered before earning their credential or degree.

This inaugural conference is intended for both organizations that are beginning to explore the concept of CBTE as well as those who are further along in the path of development. Plenary sessions will feature Dr. Kent Anderson (President, Northwest Baptist Seminary), Ms. Charla Long (President, Go Long Consulting and Executive Director, Competency-Based Education Network) and Dr. Stephen Graham (Senior Director of Programs and Services at the Association of Theological Schools.

CBTE 2018 is for leaders of ministry networks, churches and school administration and faculty with workshop tracks facilitating leaders who are:

Curious about the CBTE movement in North America and worldwide
Considering development or adoption of a CBTE program in their school or ministry setting
Planning implementation of a CBTE program and want to learn from those who’ve already done it
Already running a CBTE program and want to share learnings & challenges, or collaborate with others on continuous improvement
The first conference of its kind, CBTE 2018 brings the future of theological education to life, putting you at the forefront of what’s happening today in competency-based theological education (CBTE).

At CBTE 2018 you’ll gain the knowledge and insight you need to put the evolving landscape of competency-based learning into the context of your own organization, for today and tomorrow. Embark on a journey with peers and education leaders from across North America, to explore the trends, tools, and techniques that are influencing the future of theological education.
