About the Presenter:

Jeremy Bell is the Executive Minister of the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada.  He has an MA from Royal Roads University in Organizational Leadership, specializing in how not-for-profits develop assessment tools. Jeremy did his thesis in cooperation with the YMCA.

Jeremy has co-founded three ongoing not-for-profits in Vancouver:

    • Vancouver Christian Counseling Centre
    • Kitsilano Christian Community Church
    • Homestart Foundation which provides free furniture to people in transition in 70 community groups.

He has volunteered in leadership with many organizations:

    • YMCA
    • Seaforth Highlanders of Canada
    • Regent College
    • Mustard Seed Alberta
    • Carey Centre
    • Kate Booth House
    • A Salvation Army transition house for women and children
    • Faith support structures of Nisga’a treaty negotiations along with several other initiatives.

Objective of the conference:  You will explore the uniqueness of not-for-profits, including their specific and unique ways of governance, identifying and satisfying stakeholder needs, focusing on purpose and assessment of their work.


This non-profit management conference will review the unique mission, purpose and vision of the not for profit sector and its relationship to contemporary Canadian social structures.  It will examine aspects of governance, the measurement of outcomes, metrics that make sense, defining and engaging multiple stakeholders, and encouraging attendees to apply this knowledge to their own individual contexts.

In an age of economic and fiscal restraint, every level of government is seeking to restrain public expenditure on what has been considered over the last 70 years as appropriate entitlement.  As the relationship between governance, not for profits, public philanthropy, and personal altruism change, it is important that not for profits anticipate and frame that new narrative so that they can continue to serve their existing and future clients.

This non-profit management conference is for directors, board members, pastors, financial officers, and others who are leaders in a non-profit organization. Both dialogue and praxis, based upon discussion with both thinkers and practitioners, and grounded in the realities of the participant’s own context will shape the time together.
