Our culture does not talk about grief and death so this seminar is a singular opportunity to address topics that we all face. Whether you are a professional caregiver or you currently are walking this road, our presenter’s knowledge, compassion, and experience will both educate and touch you in deep places.

About the Seminar:

  • The Journey of Grief –  What does grief look like?

The Journey of Grief is not a linear one nor does it fit into neat, easily defined “stages of grief.”  We will look at grief from a holistic perspective, consider what is “normal,” and seek to understand the differences between grief and depression.

  • Common Myths/Misconceptions related to Grief

Understanding the common myths and misconceptions related to grief enables us to understand the grieving process in the context of our personal lives and our culture.  We will begin to identify our own grieving process and consider how we typically respond to another person’s grief.

  • Do’s & Don’ts when supporting a grieving person

What is good Pastoral Care when someone is grieving?  We will discuss how we accompany another person through the loss not only from the death of a loved one but also loss associated with their health, their independence, their job, their sense of worth.  Our goal is to support people in a healthy grieving process.

  • Constructing a Celebration of Life Service for the unchurched

Increasingly the funeral homes are finding that people are requesting not to have a  funeral service or a memorial service.  What are the reasons behind these decisions?  How do we respond as Pastors when the family say no to a religious service?  We will discuss some of the ideas that I have learned from my Celebrant training and years of experience in conducting non-religious Celebration of Life services.
