As the people of God, worship is our response to God for who He is, and what he has done. We do this through the things we say, the things we do, and, of course, in our gathering as a Church. How we worship is not only an indicator for our relationship with God, but is also formative for growing closer to God. This seminar will focus on the following topics:

·         The biblical and historical frameworks for worship

·         Spiritual formation in corporate Worship

·         Explore the gift of music in Christian worship

·         Liturgy matters 

About the Presenter

Herbert H. Tsang is Professor at Trinity Western University, where he leads the Applied Research Lab. He holds M.S. in electrical engineering and Ph.D. in computing science from Washington University in St. Louis and Simon Fraser University respectively. Before joining TWU, he received the prestigious Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Postdoctoral Fellowship and completed his postdoctoral training at the University of Calgary. His research focuses on computational intelligence with applications in bioinformatics and mobile computing. He is a Senior Member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) at the province of British Columbia, Canada. Also, Dr. Tsang is an adjunct professor at School of Interactive Arts and Technology at Simon Fraser University and CTO of Credo Interactive Inc. Dr. Tsang was nominated for the Davis Distinguished Teaching Award and Provost Innovative Teaching Award.

     Besides his accomplishment in the technical area, Dr. Tsang is also a professional conductor and scholar on worship and church music.

Dr. Tsang is the president of Church Music Ministry of Canada, and he serves as the Director of the Centre for Worship Studies at Carey Institute and Adjunct Professor at the Carey Theological College. He holds three master’s degrees (music, engineering, and theology) and a second doctorate in the area of Christian worship studies. He has directed various professional and amateur choirs and orchestras throughout Canada, US, Asia, and Europe. A prolific writer, Dr. Tsang have a regular monthly column on the topic of worship and music in local newspaper since 2004. He is the author of “Worship: You, Me, and Him,” and co-author of “Public Reading of Scriptures in Corporate Worship” and “Public Prayer in Corporate Worship”. With over 23 recordings produced under his musical direction, they all remain remarkably successful. In 2007, Dr. Tsang was selected as one of eight Tanglewood II Symposium Scholars. This international symposium brings together distinguished international scholars to cultivate a new understanding of music learning for the 21st Century.
