The Great Debaters (2007) is an inspiring and well-acted film about the true story of Melvin B. Tolson, a professor at Wiley College Texas who inspired students to form the school’s first debate team, which went on to challenge Harvard University in the national championship. The debating team inspires students and people of colour to excel in spite of racism, discrimination and social stratification.
