We are figuring out when we can reschedule the Exhibition and Symposium at Swallowfield Farm. Changes will be posted at swallowfield.ca

“Art and creativity have long been integrated into the sciences and have always had essential roles in world religions. Juxtaposing religious iconography, well-known art works, and visual references from science, this pictorial, albeit limited, ‘chronicle’ of humanity, compares and conflates ideas and ideologies through a collage of visual language, communicating in a way that hopes to not alienate the viewer, as scholastic texts, religious jargon or culturally specific idioms might. It is intended to encourage visitors to talk freely together and to ask questions of themselves and of each other.

Deliberately hand made and personal, the agenda of A CREATURE CHRONICLE is not to prove points, but to open up different points of view in order to inspire true dialogue.

A CREATURE CHRONICLE is a 15 panel double-sided circular art installation about 24 feet in diameter and 8 feet high. The painted and collaged images taken from a multitude of art, science and faith references are meant to provoke contemplation and conversation about the difficult questions of what it is to be human. From the stories of genesis to the still-being-written stories of contemporary bioscience, layers of concern and celebration are woven together around our complex philosophical debates about creation in the context of developing post/trans humanism.

I hope this installation might increase our curiosity, challenge our complacency and cause us to celebrate Creation in all its forms.” Thank you for coming ! – Betty Spackman
