Mark Washington enters his seventh season as a member of the Lion’s coaching staff and his first as the club’s defensive coordinator. In his previous six seasons as the Leos’ secondary coach, Mark presided over no fewer than 14 West Division All-Stars and nine All- Canadians.

Last season, the Lions ranked first overall against the pass surrendering a league-low average of 245 yards per game as well as the lowest average gain per pass at 7.1 yards. Mark’s work with a veteran group in the secondary culminated in Ryan Phillips, Dante Marsh and newcomer Cord Parks earning West Division All-Star selections and an All-Canadian nod for Phillips.

Prior to making the transition to the coaching ranks from the gridiron, Mark spent five seasons patrolling the Lions’ secondary from his halfback position (2003-2007) including the Lions’ 2006 Grey Cup season. Mark was added to the club’s roster of coaches following the 2007 season.

Originally coming to the CFL in 1997 with the Montreal Alouettes, Washington spent six seasons with the Als including their 2002 Grey Cup title season.

A natural locker room leader and familiar face in Lions community programs, Mark was recognized for his inspirational play by the Lions in 2003 with the Fred Dietrich Award, followed by the CFLPA’s Tom Pate Award in 2006 for outstanding sportsmanship in addition to significant contributions to his team and community.

A native of Washington, DC, Mark attended Rutgers University and graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering.  Now a year-round resident in the Vancouver area, Mark and his wife Judy have two children.

What is Regeneration?

We believe in communicating God’s unchanging truth in a relevant manner – through the use of various media that are most effective with our generation. Our vision is to see the young people of our city reconnect with God, and for this generation to inherit God’s plan of hope and purpose in each of their lives. If you share the same vision, then we welcome your support and involvement (either as a church group or an individual believer) on the REgeneration team – as nothing brings revival more effectively than the unity shown when different parts of the local church body come together.

“For we also once were foolish ourselves, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, spending our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another. But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”

– Titus 3:3-7 (NASB)

DE-GENERATION

The description of the Apostle Paul’s generation during the early church in the verses above could be applied just as well to our generation today. The schemes of Satan are still the same; deceiving our young people from the Truth, enslaving them to various lusts and pleasures (and there’s more of that in the modern world than ever before), and disconnecting this generation from the God who loves and cares for them.

RE-GENERATION

Just as God revived the early church in Corinth and Ephesus, we believe that God intends to do the same for Vancouver, not by man’s good works, but by God’s mercy and grace – through submission to the lordship of Jesus Christ and empowerment by the gift of the Holy Spirit.

JESUS-GENERATION

Our vision is to see the young people of our city reconnect with God, and for this generation to inherit God’s plan of hope and purpose in each of their lives.

MISSION

The primary focus of REgeneration is to:

* REACH the lost
* RESTORE the prodigal
* RENEW the believer

We believe in communicating God’s unchanging truth in a relevant manner – through the use of various media that are most effective with our generation.

If you share the same vision, then we welcome your support and involvement (either as a church group or an individual believer) on the REgeneration team – as nothing brings revival more effectively than the unity shown when different parts of the local church body come together.
