Jesus says, “Love your neighbours,” but so many of us are disentangled from the neighbourhoods we represent. We commute out of our neighbourhood to go to school and work and don’t have the time to invest in the neighbours who live next door. With busy lives, what does it actually mean to take Jesus’ words seriously and literally and entangle ourselves in the lives of our neighbours?

This workshop will mobilize you with practical strategies for loving the people God has strategically placed in proximity to you.

Speaker: Joe White

Joe White and his wife Heidi are church planters in Fresno, California. Fresno is the 5th largest city in California and America’s 7th poorest city. Joe and Heidi serve in the Jackson Neighbourhood which has an average income of $26,000 a year and 71 percent of their neighbours don’t have a high school education.

Joe works in the field of Christian community development which has included starting a church called, “Neighborhood Church,” a small business which employs neighbours with barriers to employment, and a non-profit which meets specialized needs in their neighbourhood with specific care. They have also catalyzed over 20 different ministry initiatives in the Jackson Neighbourhood which seek to change the demographics in the areas of education, teen pregnancy, safety, and economic well-being.

Recently, Joe was recognized by the city of Fresno as a “Top-25 Leader” doing innovative work in the city. Joe has a BA in Biblical Studies, a Diploma in Urban Ministry, a Diploma in Christian Studies, and a Master of Divinity from Regent College in Vancouver. His passions are rock climbing, hiking, trail running and skiing.
