First United Church Community Ministry Society and the Schein Foundation proudly present the 2019-2020 Roddan Jubilee Lectures dedicated to conversations on the housing crisis in Vancouver and beyond.

The first event of the series features P.E. Moskowitz, author of How to Kill a City: Gentrification, Inequality, and the Fight for the Neighborhood, at 7pm, Saturday October 19, 2019 at Christ Church Cathedral (690 Burrard St).

Gentrification has been presented as an unexplainable and unsolvable phenomenon: cities change, people move out, rent rises, new coffee shops open. But there’s something much more nefarious going on behind the scenes. In their talk, P.E. Moskowitz will elucidate the forces responsible for the corporatization of cities, and what we can do to stop them.

Our program continues in 2020 with presentations from:

  • Stéphan Corriveau, Executive Director, Community Housing Transformation Centre in Quebec, at 3pm, Saturday February 29, 2020 at Shaughnessy Heights United Church (1550 W 33rd Ave); and
  • Stephanie Allen, Hogan’s Alley Advocate and Associate VP of Strategic Business Operations & Performance at BC Housing, at 7pm, Tuesday April 21, 2020 at Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue (580 W Hastings St).

About the series
