In 1996, John Neate Jr. founded JJ Bean, a premier coffee retail and wholesale chain that has been voted Vancouver’s “Best Coffee Chain” since 2008. Starting with two stores and 12 employees, he has grown a team of 200 staff serving in 13 stores, with multimillions in sales.
John was raised in a coffee family. His grandfather and father started Neates Coffee, purchased by Nestle in 1990, and John’s inherited passion for providing a great coffee experience to the masses drove him to launch JJ Bean. He and Melanie, his wife of more than 30 years, passed on a passion for coffee to their children, a few of whom have joined the family business.
